He was born on October 8, 1987 in Tulsa, OK where he attended Union High. As a redshirt freshman at Oklahoma, he played in 13 games, garnering 1 start. He finished the year with 6 tackles, but also returned 12 punts for 124 yards (10.3 avg). He earned the 14 starts as a sophomore, finishing the year with 42 tackles, 1 for loss, 4 interceptions, and 10 pass deflections. He gained 52 yards on his interception returns with a touchdown, and also returned a fumble 39 yards for another score. He returned 6 punts for 35 yards (5.8 avg). As a junior, he started 13 games.
