He was born on May 1, 1994 in Chicago, IL and graduated from Hoffman Estates (IL) High School. As a redshirt freshman at Drake, he started nine of 11 games and caught 47 passes for 549 yards (11.7 avg) and two touchdowns. He also returned a punt for seven yards and blocked a punt. As a sophomore he started seven of eight games, missing three due to injury. He finished the year with 32 catches for 348 yards (10.9 avg) and two scores. As a junior he started all 11 games and led the team with 55 catches for 580 yards (10.5 avg) and seven touchdowns. He also returned a single kickoff for eight yards, recovered a fumble and blocked another punt. As a senior he started 10 of 11 games, leading the team with 56 catches for 776 yards (13.9 avg) and 10 touchdowns. He earned first-team All-Pioneer Football League honors as a freshman, junior and senior with honorable mention nod as a sophomore. He was named a third-team FCS All-American as a junior and earned second-team honors as a senior. He was selected by the Atlanta Falcons in the fifth round (174th overall) of the 2017 NFL Draft.
