Romarius Smith was born on September 11, 1995 in Mobile, AL where he graduated from McGill-Toolen Catholic HS. As a true freshman at Southern Miss he started six of 12 games and led the team with 536 rushing yards on 136 carries (3.9 avg) with two touchdowns. He also added eight receptions for 76 yards (9.5 avg) and 10 kickoff returns for 223 yards (22.3 avg). As a sophomore he started seven of 14 games, once again leading the team with 1,128 rushing yards on 171 carries (6.6 avg) and adding 10 scores. He also nabbed 49 receptions for 515 yards (10.5 avg) and three more touchdowns, while returning 11 kickoffs for 233 yards (21.2 avg) on his way to earn second-team All-Conference USA honors. He started all 13 games as a junior, leading the team with 1,459 rushing yards on 265 carries (5.5 avg) and a career-high 17 touchdowns. He also caught 43 passes for 459 yards (10.7 avg) and two more scores, earning second-team All-Conference USA honors for the second consecutive season. His senior season saw him start all 13 games once again, leading the team for the fourth year with 1,415 rushing yards on 248 carries (5.7 avg) and 13 scores. He caught 40 passes for 396 yards (9.9 avg) and two touchdowns, while also returning five kickoffs for 94 yards (18.8 avg). He earned first-team All-Conference USA that year. He finished his career as the school record-holder in all-purpose yards (6,534) and total touchdowns (49). He was originally selected by the Atlanta Falcons in the fourth round (126th overall) of the 2018 NFL Draft.
