Jalen Carnell Collins was born on March 20, 1993 in Kansas City, MO. He attended Olive Branch (MS) High before enrolling at Louisiana State University. As a redshirt freshman, he started a single game in 13 total appearances. He finished the year with 30 tackles, two interceptions and six pass breakups. He would earn two starts as a sophomore, while still playing in all 13 games. He had 22 tackles and two pass breakups that year. As a junior, he earned his most extensive playing time with seven starts in 13 games. He finished the year with 38 tackles, three tackles for loss, an interception and a team-leading nine pass breakups. He would forgo his final year of eligibility to enter the 2015 NFL Draft, where he was selected by the Atlanta Falcons in the second round (42nd overall).
