He was born on December 20, 1988 in Richmond, TX and attended Lamar Consolidated HS. His uncle is former NFL safety Michael Lewis, who played with the Philadelphia Eagles, San Francisco 49ers, and St. Louis Rams between 2002 and 2010. He is the older brother of Falcons running Jacquizz Rodgers (2011-present). As a true freshman, he started 1 of 13 games. He caught 19 passes for 208 yards (10.9 avg) and a touchdown. He also rushed for 586 yards on 50 carries (11.7 avg) and 3 touchdowns. He also returned 5 kickoffs for 122 yards (24.4 avg). He started 12 games as a sophomore, catching 51 passes for 607 yards (11.9 avg) and 4 touchdowns. He also rushed for 408 yards on 46 carries (8.9 avg) and 5 touchdowns. He returned 33 kickoffs for 818 yards (24.8 avg) and a touchdown. As a junior, he started 13 games and caught a career-high 91 passes for 1034 yards (11.4 avg) and 9 touchdowns and rushed for 303 yards on 58 carries (5.2 avg) and a touchdown. He returned 36 kickoffs for 840 yards (23.3 avg) and returned 13 punts for 151 yards (11.6 avg). As a senior in 2010, he started the first 4 games, missing one due to a concussion. He then tore his ACL in his left knee in the fifth game of the season, missing the rest of the season. He finished the year with 16 catches for 215 yards (13.4 avg) and 2 touchdowns. He rushed for 38 yards on 8 carries (4.8 avg), returned 12 kickoffs for 344 yards (28.7 avg) and 6 punts for 110 yards (8.3 avg) and a touchdown. He came back in 2011, starting 9 games and catching 45 passes for 514 yards (11.4 avg) and 3 touchdowns. He missed 2 games coming back from his knee injury, but also missed a game due to an ankle injury. He also rushed for 75 yards on 11 carries (6.8 avg). He was originally signed by the Atlanta Falcons as an undrafted free agent in 2012.
