Jason Michael Snelling was born on December 29, 1983 in Toms River, NJ. He would attend L.C. Bird High in Richmond, VA before enrolling at the University of Virginia. As a true freshman, he appeared in 12 games, rushing for 38 yards on 9 carries (4.2 avg) and catching 31 passes for 314 yards (10.1 avg) and 4 scores. He also recorded 12 tackles on special teams. The following year, he missed the entire season due to a medical condition that caused dizziness and headaches coupled with a shoulder sprain. The injury would later be revealed as epilepsy. He came back as a sophomore in 2004, started 6 of 7 games at fullback. He rushed for 189 yards on 26 carries (7.3 avg) and 1 touchdown, with 5 receptions for 39 yards (7.8 avg). He started 3 games as the team's primary lead blocker as a junior, rushing for 325 yards on 58 carries (5.6 avg) and 2 touchdowns with 19 catches for 140 yards (7.4 avg) and 4 tackles on special teams. As a senior, he moved to tailback, started 11 games there and rushed for 772 yards on 183 carries (4.2 avg) and caught 29 passes for 282 yards (9.7 avg). He was selected by the Atlanta Falcons in the seventh round (244th overall) of the 2007 NFL Draft.
