Jonathan Yao-Lante Asamoah was born on July 21, 1988 in Matteson, IL. He attended Rich East High in Park Forest, IL. As a freshman at Illinois, he appeared in five games as a reserve. He started 13 games as a sophomore at right guard. He would start his next 24 games over the next two seasons there to finish his career with 37 consecutive starts. He earned 2nd team All-Big Ten honors as a senior, as well as Academic All-Big Ten honors. He was originally drafted by the Kansas City Chiefs in the third round (68th overall) of the 2010 NFL Draft.
