As a sophomore, he appeared in 13 games, and recorded 19 tackles, 3 for loss, 0.5 sacks, 2 interceptions, and 1 forced fumble. He earned a starting spot at defensive tackle as a junior, starting 10 of 12 games. He had 42 tackles, 8 for loss, 3 sacks, 1 interception, and 1 pass deflection that year. As a senior, he started the first 6 games of the year, with five starts at left defensive tackle and one at left defensive end. But he was suspended a game for punching an opposing player in the groin and lost his starting position. He finished the year with 10 total appearances, and recorded 41 tackles, 6.5 for loss, 2 sacks, and 4 pass deflections. He also performed shotput on Miami's track team in the spring of 2009.
