Michael P. Johnson was born on April 2, 1987 and attended Pine Forest High in Pensacola, FL. As a freshman at Alabama, he appeared in 13 games as a reserve. He assumed the starting position at right tackle as a sophomore, logging 10 starts there. He also filled in at right guard for 3 starts. He finished the year with 73 knockdowns and 11 touchdown-resulting blocks. He moved to left guard as a junior, starting 12 games there, and also filled in as a starter at left tackle in two games. He earned 2nd team All-SEC honors with 93 knockdowns, 12 touchdown-resulting blocks, 1.5 sacks allowed, 3 pressures allowed, and 3 penalties. As a senior, he started all 14 games at left guard, earning 1st team All-SEC and All-American honors. He finished the year with 98 knockdowns, 16 touchdown-resulting blocks, 0.5 sacks allowed, 5 pressures allowed, and 2 penalties. He was drafted by the Atlanta Falcons in the third round (98th overall) of the 2010 NFL Draft.
