He began his career at Arizona State as a safety, but was moved to outside linebacker his redshirt freshman year. He played in 10 games as a reserve, finishing with 6 tackles, 1 for loss, and 1 sack. As a sophomore, he started 6 of 11 games at weakside linebacker, finishing with 36 tackles, 5 tackles for loss, 1 sack, 1 interception, and 5 pass breakups. As a junior, he played as a backup in 8 games before a concussion sidelined him for the rest of the season. He finished the season with 26 stops, 4.5 for loss, 1 sack, and 1 forced fumble.
