He was born on March 28, 1995 and graduated from San Clemente (CA) High. His father, Pat, played offensive tackle in the NFL for the New England Patriots (1991-95) and Oakland Raiders (1996-98). As a true freshman at Oregon State, Sean started the final nine games at right tackle, making 10 total appearances. He started all 12 games the following year, beginning the season at right tackle for five starts, before switching to left tackle for the final seven games. He started the first seven games at left tackle again as a junior before missing the remainder of the season with a broken leg. His recovery from the injury lingered into his senior season, but he managed to return and start the final nine games at left tackle on his way to earn second-team All-Pac 12 honors.
