Seth Doege was born on December 18, 1988 in San Angelo, TX. He graduated from Frenship HS in Wolfforth, TX before enrolling at Texas Tech. As a redshirt freshman, he appeared in 4 games. He made his first career start midway through the season, but was pulled midway through the game, although Texas Tech won. He finished the season, completing 38 of 61 passes (62.3%) for 369 yards and 2 touchdowns. His sophomore year, he appeared in only 2 games as a reserve, completing 3 of 4 passes (75%) for 58 yards. As a junior, he assumed the starting position, leading Tech to a 5-7 record in 12 starts. He finished the year completing 398 of 581 pass attempts (68.5%) for 4004 yards, 28 touchdowns, and 10 interceptions. He also rushed for 46 yards and 4 touchdowns and had a single reception for 11 yards. As a senior, he started 13 games, leading the Red Raiders to an 8-5 record. He completed 380 of 541 passes (70.2%) for 4215 yards, 39 touchdowns, and 16 interceptions. His completions and touchdowns ranked second in the nation as a senior, and he was third in both completion percentage and passing yards. His senior-year completion rate also set a new Texas Tech school record for a single season. He earned All-Big 12 honorable mention honors as a senior, and was also a two-time Academic All-Big 12 1st team honoree in his final two years. He also was a Davey O'Brien Award semifinalist both as a junior and senior, an award given to the nation's top quarterback. He was originally signed by the Atlanta Falcons as an undrafted rookie free agent in 2013.
