Taylor James Gabriel was born on February 17, 1991 in Dallas, TX. He graduated from John Horn High in Mesquite, TX. As a true freshman at Abilene Christian, he played in 12 games as a reserve. He finished the year with 26 catches for 295 yards (11.3 avg) and seven carries for 33 yards (4.7 avg). He also returned four punts for 100 yards (25.0 avg) and a touchdown and two kickoffs for 14 yards (7.0 avg). He started eight of 11 games as a sophomore, finishing the year with a team-leading 64 catches for 988 yards (15.4 avg) and 10 touchdowns. He also added 104 rushing yards on eight carries (13.0 avg), 12 punts for 136 yards (11.3 avg) with a touchdown. That year he earned second-team All-Lone Star Conference honors and honorable mention All-American honors. His junior season saw him start 10 of 11 games, finishing the year with 52 catches for 684 yards (13.2 avg) and seven scores. He also had 85 rushing yards on nine carries (9.4 avg) and two more touchdowns, while also returning five punts for 132 yards (26.4 avg). That year he earned first-team All-Lone Star Conference honors as a wide receiver and second-team honors as a return specialist. As a senior he started all 11 games, finishing with a career-high 73 catches for 1,060 yards (14.5 avg) and 10 touchdowns. He also had 40 rushing yards on four carries (10.0 avg) and 209 punt return yards on 12 returns (17.4 avg). He also completed a single pass attempt for a 50-yard touchdown. He originally signed with the Cleveland Browns as an undrafted rookie free gent after the 2014 NFL Draft.
