Timothy Lee Toone was born on February 14, 1985 in Peoria, AZ. He attended Peoria High School before going on a two-year LDS mission in West Africa. Afterwards, he enrolled at Weber State. As a redshirt freshman, he started 1 of 8 games. He caught 7 passes for 275 yards (39.3 avg) and 2 scores, while also returning 10 punts for 95 yards (9.5 avg) and a touchdown. As a sophomore, he started all 11 games, catching 32 passes for 698 yards (21.8 avg) and 10 touchdowns with 1 punt return for 32 yards. He earned All-Big Sky Conference honorable mention honors. As a junior, he would start 12 of 14 games, catching 84 passes for 1525 yards (18.2 avg) and 7 touchdowns, with 9 punt returns for a total of 61 yards (6.8 avg) and 6 kickoff returns for 159 yards (26.5 avg). He also earned 1st team All-Big Sky honors that year. As a senior, he started 11 of 12 games, catching 83 passes for 1104 yards (13.4 avg) and 10 scores, returning 19 punts for 378 yards (19.9 avg) and 2 touchdowns and 3 kickoffs for 69 yards (23.0 avg). He earned 1st team All-Big Sky honors for the second time. During his career at Weber State, he was also a three-time honoree on the Big Sky All-Academic team as a freshman, sophomore, and junior. He was originally drafted in the seventh round (255th overall) by the Detroit Lions in the 2010 NFL Draft.
