Anthony Gonzalez was born on February 27, 1976 in Torrance, CA. He attended Huntington Beach (CA) High. As a freshman at California, he played in 10 games, catching 8 passes for 62 yards (7.8 avg) and 1 touchdown. As a sophomore, he played in 11 games as a starter, with 37 catches for 541 yards (14.6 avg) and 2 touchdowns. As a junior, he played in 12 games with 46 catches for 699 yards (15.9 avg) and 5 touchdowns. He earned 1st team All-American and 1st team All-Pac 10 honors that season. He also played three seasons on the Cal basketball team, appearing in 82 games with 16 career starters. He averaged 6.4 points and 4.3 rebounds per game over his career. He had a career high of 29 points as a freshman. He entered the NFL Draft as a junior and was selected by the Kansas City Chiefs in the first (13th overall) of the 1997 NFL Draft. He was named to the AFC Pro Bowl team in 1999, 2000, 2001, 2002, 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007, and 2008 seasons. Made the NFC Pro Bowl team in 2010, 2011, and 2012.
