Travian Jamal Robertson was born on December 9, 1988 and attended Scotland County High in Laurinburg, NC. As a true freshman at South Carolina, he started the season opener, and appeared in 12 total games. He finished the year with 7 tackles and 1 pass defended. As a sophomore, he appeared in 13 games as a reserve. He recorded 17 tackles, 2 tackles for loss, 2 passes defended, 1 forced fumble, and 1 fumble recovery. He began the following year as the starter, starting four games before a torn ACL in his right knee sidelined him for the rest of the year. He managed 8 tackles and 1 tackle for loss before the injury. He was granted a medical redshirt and returned for his junior year in 2010. He started 14 games, recording 42 tackles, 11 for loss, 4 sacks, 2 passes defended, 1 forced fumble, and 2 recoveries. As a senior, he started 13 games, finishing with 49 tackles, 8 for loss, 2.5 sacks, and 1 blocked kick. He was selected by the Atlanta Falcons in the seventh round (249th overall) in the 2012 NFL Draft.
