Born on January 8, 1982 in Prague, Czech Republic. He attended Newbury Park (CA) High. Played defense as a redshirt freshman at Stanford, recording 2 tackles in 8 games. As a sophomore, he played both defensive end and tight end. Defensively, he started 3 of 10 games, recording 9 tackles, 1 tackle for loss, and 0.5 sacks. On offense, he had a single reception for 6 yards. As a junior, he started all 11 games at defensive end, recording 20 tackles, 3 for loss, 1 sack, and interception. As a senior, he started 4 of 9 games at end, finishing the year with 30 tackls, 3.5 tackles for loss, and 0.5 sacks. He also finished his career with a forced fumble and was a 2-time Academic All-Pac 10 selection. He was a member of Stanford track team during his sophomore season, participating on discus and shot events. He was selected by the Kansas City Chiefs in the 6th round (187th overall) of the 2005 NFL Draft.
