Pudge’s Picks – Week 13

I only got one of the Thursday games right against the spread, but got all three correct picking straight up.

Atlanta Falcons (2-9) at Buffalo Bills (4-7)
Sunday, December 1 at 4:05 pm ET on FOX

Line: Bills (-3.5)

I don’t like the matchup with the Bills defensive line against the Falcons offensive line. The Falcons have also struggled on the road this year. Now, playing in Toronto won’t be like normal road games, since it’s marginally a home game for the Bills.

Spread Pick: Bills
Straight Pick: Bills

Chicago Bears (6-5) at Minnesota Vikings (2-8-1)
Sunday, December 1 at 1 pm ET on FOX

Line: Vikings (-0.5)

I’m taking the Bears, because Josh McCown manages to find ways to play well enough to win games.

Spread Pick: Bears
Straight Pick: Bears

Jacksonville Jaguars (2-9) at Cleveland Browns (4-7)
Sunday, December 1 at 1 pm ET on CBS

Line: Browns (-7.5)

This game is my nightmare: Brandon Weeden vs. the Jaguars. I have made the mistake of picking the Browns too many times with Weeden starting, and I almost never pick the Jaguars. I hate picking the Jaguars, but I will have to take them this week.

Spread Pick: Jaguars
Straight Pick: Browns

Tennessee Titans (5-6) at Indianapolis Colts (7-4)
Sunday, December 1 at 1 pm ET on CBS

Line: Colts (-4.5)

I would be quick to pick the Titans, except that Ryan Fitzpatrick is their quarterback. And thus I feel like the struggling Colts get their act together and find a way to overcome that epic beard.

Spread Pick: Colts
Straight Pick: Colts

Miami Dolphins (5-6) at New York Jets (5-6)
Sunday, December 1 at 1 pm ET on CBS

Line: Jets (-1.5)

The Jets have been struggling as of late, but I think this week they get their act together at home, where they are generally a much more effective team. I like the Dolphins defense, but I think the Jets prevail in a close one.

Spread Pick: Jets
Straight Pick: Jets

New England Patriots (8-3) at Houston Texans (2-9)
Sunday, December 1 at 1 pm ET on CBS

Line: Texans (+8.5)

There’s really no reason to pick the Texans. But I’ve been picking them for like several weeks straight, and I figure the week I opt not to pick them will likely be the week that they manage to cover. The Patriots just haven’t been a great road team this year, and I suspect the Texans defense is good enough to keep this one close.

Spread Pick: Texans
Straight Pick: Patriots

Arizona Cardinals (7-4) at Philadelphia Eagles (6-5)
Sunday, December 1 at 1 pm ET on FOX

Line: Eagles (-3.5)

Conventional wisdom says that the Cardinals playing an early East Coast game will give them trouble. But they are 2-1 in such games this year, although their two wins came against Tampa Bay and Jacksonville. Philadelphia is fresh off their first home win of the season, beating Washington two weeks ago. It’s hard to pick against the Cardinals defense, but I feel like Philly is building some momentum under Nick Foles.

Spread Pick: Eagles
Straight Pick: Eagles

Tampa Bay Buccaneers (3-6) at Carolina Panthers (8-3)
Sunday, December 1 at 1 pm ET on FOX

Line: Panthers (-8.5)

The Panthers have won seven straight, but their last three have been fairly tight ballgames. They are due for a loss, and the ascending Bucs might be the team that gives it to them. But even if they don’t, they should be able to cover.

Spread Pick: Buccaneers
Straight Pick: Panthers

St. Louis Rams (5-6) at San Francisco 49ers (7-4)
Sunday, December 1 at 4:05 pm ET on FOX

Line: 49ers (-9.5)

While many are down on the 49ers, I’m not. I still see them as a playoff team. The question on whether they can cover a large spread against the Rams, a team that historically has played the 49ers well. With a healthy Zac Stacy, I like the Rams.

Spread Pick: Rams
Straight Pick: 49ers

Cincinnati Bengals (7-4) at San Diego Chargers (5-6)
Sunday, December 1 at 4:25 pm ET on CBS

Line: Chargers (-1.5)

Even Andy Dalton should be able to throw against a weak Chargers secondary.

Spread Pick: Bengals
Straight Pick: Bengals

Denver Broncos (9-2) at Kansas City Chiefs (9-2)
Sunday, December 1 at 4:25 pm ET on CBS

Line: Chiefs (+4.5)

The Broncos drew first blood, but I think at home the Chiefs find a way to get it done.

Spread Pick: Chiefs
Straight Pick: Chiefs

New York Giants (4-7) at Washington Redskins (3-8)
Sunday, December 1 at 8:30 pm ET on NBC

Line: Redskins (+1.5)

Robert Griffin III has been coming under fire as of late, but I think the Redskins win this game with Alfred Morris’ running. Also the Giants missing Jason Pierre-Paul I think will be a big difference in this one.

Spread Pick: Redskins
Straight Pick: Redskins

New Orleans Saints (9-2) at Seattle Seahawks (10-1)
Monday, December 2 at 8:30 pm ET on ESPN

Line: Seahawks (-5.5)

The Seahawks are pretty much at full strength if you don’t count Percy Harvin and Brandon Browner. The Saints are as well, but I think the Seahawks secondary is able to contain Jimmy Graham, and also put pressure on Brees to slow down the Saints offense.

Spread Pick: Seahawks
